Woo-Hoo

On Friday the 20th of September several members of the bowls club went back to school!

We visited Bailey's Court Primary School to present our donation to them from the proceeds of this year's Captain's Day, a sum of £400.

Our visit and the donation had been kept a closely guarded secret from the children and their teachers who were surprised and somewhat bewildered as to why a group of adults in bowling attire were facing them at their Friday afternoon assembly.

Deputy Head, Sophie Elliot then explained to years 3, 5 and 6 who were in attendance why the visit was being made and between us we gave a short overview of what Captain's Day was all about and showed some of the equipment used in playing the game of lawn bowls.

The sum raised was then displayed on screen and a rousing response to the amount made by the children in gratitude.

It was explained by Sophie that the monies would be put forward to purchase additional sports equipment for the school.

The children then performed an excellent rendition of Kool and the Gang's song 'Celebration' with a lot of very loud Woo-Hoo's* , hence the title of this piece, before their assembly ended.
* You may need to remember or listen to the song to understand this!
