Captain's Day 2026
Yet another great Captain’s Day at the Club.
For this year’s good cause the Club is supporting the Children's Hospice SOUTH WEST charity with the theme of the day being 'When I was Six'
The day began with the usual teas and coffee on arrival and then on to the ‘spider’ where everyone targets the centre of the green with a single wood all at once, the nearest winning a bottle of, this year, a bottle of Gin. This year the prize went to Mike Bryant.
Sandra Carter and Chris Heaton won the 'Best Dressed competition' on the day.
It was also a great privilege to yet again welcome back Bill Plank the very first Bradley Stoke Club President as a guest who is very close to his 100th birthday!
Then it was on to the main event of the day, namely the Open Drawn Four’s competition. To continue the ‘When I was Six’ theme for the day six teams with a variety of well-remembered children’s TV shows all vide for top spot.
During the day the normal tombola operated and at the end of proceedings a further ticket raffle took place.
The great British weather, sunshine! allowed the day to proceeded without any delays. It remained hot and sunny into the afternoon after we had all sampled the excellent food extravaganza prepared by our team of ladies.
During lunch the Club’s Captain, thanked everyone involved in supporting the day and formally welcomed and thanked Bradley Stoke Mayor, Jenny James, for her attendance throughout the day together with Andy Cunningham of NOT JUST TRAVEL our 2026 sponsor.
Children’s Hospice SOUTH WEST area fund raiser, Liana Sommers, was also warmly welcomed and gave an impassioned insight into the charity and the work it does supporting families through extremely difficult times.
At the end of the days competition Jenny kindly presented the winning team the ‘Lone Rangers’ with the Doreen & John Pope Cup and commiserated with the runners up the ‘Blue Peters’.
Finally, the Club would also like to, once again, thank our friends and colleagues at the Bradley Stoke Activity Centre, namely, Bradley Stoke Cricket Club for supporting us with the bar facilities during the day.
The monies raised on the day are now being finalized and our donation will be formally presented to the charity at a later date.
